This is the moment in the novel where she decides to leave Logan and run off with Jody. Janie has made a desicion that will change her life forever. From this point on she will experience many new things with many different people. This is the moment where she starts to search for herself in a world where everything is controlled for her. When she leaves Logan, she is leaving her dull, mundane life in exchange for a more exciting existance. She leaves with Jody because he promised change and thats what she wanted. However, the change he promises is very similar to the life she left behind. She then leaves with Tea Cake because he promises change as well. But from the moment that Janie closes the gate behind her on Logan's farm, she has made the choice to live her life the way she wants to.
